About holidays in Austria

Austria's 13 holidays run from New Year's Day to St Stephen's Day. Good Friday is not among them: until 2018 it was a holiday only for Protestant, Old Catholic and Methodist employees, and since 2019 every employee may instead take one day of annual leave as a personal holiday on a date of their choice. Austrians plan around “Fenstertage”, the single working days between a holiday and a weekend. Each state also has a patron saint's day, when schools close but most businesses stay open.
