Privacy

Short version: we do not know who you are and do not try to find out.

In your browser

Every date, time and astronomical figure on the pages is calculated on your device from its clock and time-zone setting. Your time zone, the city you choose and your clock are never sent to us. The site does not ask for your location.

If you pick a city, its identifier is saved in your browser's local storage under the key wt-city so the page remembers it next time. It stays on your device; clearing site data removes it. We set no cookies.

On the sunrise and sunset page the chosen city is also written after a # in the address (for example #city=tromso-no), so you can share the link. Browsers never send that part of an address to a server.

Visitor statistics

Page-view numbers come from Cloudflare Web Analytics. A small script loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com sends the address of the page, where you came from, the kind of browser and how long the page took to load. It sets no cookies, keeps nothing in your browser and does not follow you between sites; Cloudflare's own privacy policy explains the details. The totals only tell us which pages are read.

The API and MCP server

When a program calls /api/… or /mcp, our code writes one log line per request containing only the endpoint, a broad client type (for example “browser” or “script”) and the response status. We do not log IP addresses, query parameters, headers or MCP tool inputs. To keep one caller from crowding out the rest, a short-lived counter keyed to the caller's network address caps it at 60 calls a minute. That counter sits in Cloudflare's rate-limiting service, expires after a minute, and is not something we can look at.

To see whether anyone uses the API and the MCP server, each of those requests also adds one row to a usage tally kept in Cloudflare Workers Analytics Engine. A row holds the endpoint's fixed name (never the address as it was typed), whether the request was an API call, an MCP message or a browser's preflight check, the MCP method and tool name when there is one, the response status, and a mark for traffic that is not outside use: our own tests and uptime checks, search-engine crawlers and network scanners. That mark is worked out from the request's headers as it arrives; the headers themselves are not kept. Nothing in a row says who sent the request, and Cloudflare deletes the rows after 90 days.

Our hosting provider

The site is hosted on Cloudflare's network. Delivering a page and filtering attacks means Cloudflare necessarily sees each visitor's network address and the request being made; its own privacy policy governs that. Other than the log line and the usage tally described above, none of the optional Cloudflare features that would keep a record of your requests for us is switched on.

Email

Mail sent to hello@whathappen.today is kept only as long as the conversation needs, and the sender's address serves for nothing except answering. There is no newsletter to be signed up for.

Third parties and links

The pages load nothing from other companies apart from the analytics script above. Links to Wikipedia, government sites and other sources take you to sites with their own privacy practices.

Children

Nothing here is aimed at children, and because the site gathers no personal details from any visitor, it gathers none from them either.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version replaces this page, and the date at the foot of the page moves with it.
