## About holidays in Chile

Five Chilean holidays are “irrenunciables” for retail staff — 1 January, 1 May, 18 and 19 September and 25 December — so shops close. Saints Peter and Paul and 12 October move to that week's Monday when they fall on a Tuesday to Thursday, and to the next Monday from a Friday; the National Day of Indigenous Peoples falls on the winter solstice, 20 or 21 June. Arica and Chillán have regional holidays not listed here.
