Matcha is delicious, no matter how you take it. Whether you like it in your tea or mixed in with a Kit-Kat, it’s to be savored. Now the Japanese donut chain Mister Donut is getting in on all the green goodness. Mister Donut is popular for offering donuts based on Hello Kitty, Snoopy, and other culturally significant characters as well as decadent sweets, and now the chain has teamed up with Gion Tusjiri, one of the most respected tea manufacturers in Japan.
The green tea company has joined forces with Mister Donut to bring us six different donuts as well as yummy drinks all based on matcha. There’s the Warabi Mochi Matcha donut, which has a bittersweet matcha chocolate spread inside, soy milk whip, and a piece of wasabi mocha in the middle of the donut, which is made with yeast and brown sugar.
The Shiratama Matcha donut has a whipped green tea cream, salted red bean paste, and a shiratama mocha candy made from glutinous rice flour in the center. The donut has a mix of soybean flour and brown sugar mix on top of it as a light dusting, made from black beans and unpolished rice.
The Adzuki Matcha Whip donut has a filling of green tea and Hokkaido adzuki red bean paste with kinako roasted soybean sugar on top, made out of a yeasted dough for the donut itself.
The Matcha Soy Milk whip takes a regular plain yeast dough with a smooth whipped soy cream filling, a dusting of icing sugar, and bittersweet green tea chocolate icing on the side of the donut. The Premium Matcha Fashion is a crispy donut that has matcha chocolate on one side as well.
But the most famous of Mister Donut’s products is the Pon de Ring, which gets a layer of matcha on top of it to make the Pon de Ring Premium Matcha donut. To wash it all down, you can choose from the Match au Lait Soy Milk Whip, or the Matcha au Lait drink.
The drinks and donuts will be available from April 7 through the middle of May, so any of you lucky Japanese citizens who have Mister Donut, or you vacationers, give them a try!
