Tinder Showed off a Prank VR Headset at CES 2017 - Geek.com

Tinder, the popular dating app, chose to troll CES 2017 with the idea that it would be creating its very own virtual reality headset. It’s obviously not going to be doing that, but it did manage to pull off a funny little stunt on the show floor before letting the cat out of the bag that it’s all a joke.

The joke itself, or the fake virtual reality device, is on display at CES 2017 in Las Vegas currently, where you can “look into the eyes of another person” with the Tinder VR “device,” which is part of a bid by Tinder to “take the V out of VR.”

“We created our multi-user VR headset with the Tinder experience in mind. Real people having a real experience, and like the app, it only works with a double opt-in,”

“We created our multi-user VR headset with the Tinder experience in mind. Real people having a real experience, and like the app, it only works with a double opt-in,” explains Tinder in an official company blog. That’s part of the joke, making it so believable. That certainly sounds like something we’d expect from a new campaign from the company, although in a pretty dystopian-sounding, depressing manner.

There’s a video to go along with it all that shows off the headset and its red Tinder logo, which is all part of the fun. It’s a pretty real contemplation on dating and the somewhat impersonal connections Tinder brings with it in the end, especially when you consider the way its users interact with each other and how the mate selection process goes.

It’s still a funny prank to pull, making people think it’s a real item that’s coming off the assembly line soon. But virtual reality is going to have an important part to play when it comes to the dating scene. Mark my words.
