Stay on target
If the rumors are true (and they’re looking increasingly likely) in just a few days, we may be seeing the first glimpse of Marvel vs. Capcom 4. Images have leaked out, and outlets are now reporting the crossover fighter will make its debut at the upcoming PlayStation Experience fan event before launching in 2017. Great!
These epic brawls between comic book and video game characters have been a cornerstone of the fighting game scene since 1996’s X-Men vs. Street Fighter. But after Disney acquired Marvel we all assumed 2011’s Marvel vs. Capcom 3 would be the absolutely bonkers finale for the series. That’s why we’re so thrilled that a new entry looks imminent.
However, those rumors also suggest that MvC 4 will draw most of its inspiration from the massively popular Marvel Cinematic Universe. That means long-overdue fighters like Black Panther and Captain Marvel are bound to make an appearance. Unfortunately, that also might mean that mainstay characters with movie rights owned by rival studios may be cut. No Wolverine. No Doctor Doom. No Mango Sentinel. Ouch. Meanwhile, aside from the occasional Monster Hunter, Capcom has been jogging in place this decade so there’s not much new they can add to the equation.
So to help fill out the potential Marvel vs. Capcom 4 roster, here are ten Marvel Cinematic Universe characters we think would make fantastic fighters.
Capcom would be fools to not include the dark elf Malekith, the wildly popular and memorable villain from Thor: The Dark World, in Marvel vs. Capcom 4.
Judy Greer is totally wasted in blockbusters, playing everything from a sad mom in Jurassic World to a sad mom in Tomorrowland to a sad ape mom in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. She played a sad mom in Ant-Man as well but all would be forgiven if she were made a playable character in MvC 4.
Who doesn’t want to play as the mayor of Portland hopped up on gorilla testosterone?
The Broker from Guardians of the Galaxy
As Star-Lord would say, this guy has the best eyebrows in the business. In MvC 4, he’d have the best eyebrows in a fighting game, too.
Mickey Rourke’s Bird
In Iron Man 2, Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash sure does love that bird. Give that bird a chance to prove why it’s so valuable by having it beat up the rest of the Marvel universe.
Phoenix Wright in MvC 3 already proved that lawyers make fine fighting game characters, and Carrie-Anne Moss already proved in The Matrix that she kicks butt. So it’s a mathematical proof that Jeri Hogarth from the Marvel Netflix shows would be cool combatant.
The most shocking secret Hydra operative of the MCU, Senator Stern would not only be a worthy addition to MvC 4 but a lovely tribute to the late, great Garry Shandling.
The breakout star of Captain America: Civil War and upcoming Black Panther cast member, the Dora Milaje bodyguard Ayo could win every fighter by just moving opponents who refuse to move on their own.
MODOK was an awesome unexpected character in MvC 3. Why not make the act of beating him up even more cathartic by including the canonical mash-up of MODOK and the fascist bigot lunatic who conned America into electing him president?

As the ultimate producer-god of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a playable Kevin Feige in Marvel vs. Capcom 4 would be more broken than MvC 2 Cable, Magneto, Storm, and Sentinel put together.
