Stay on target
Co-op has been a standard feature of the Uncharted series ever since the second game. However, it was noticeably missing in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Naughty Dog promised that a co-op mode would eventually be added to the game and the developer is making good on that just before the end of the year.
Similar to Co-op Arena from Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3, Survival is a wave-based co-op mode where players must face 50 waves of enemies and challenges. As you would expect, each successive wave will be more difficult than the last. Players will also be expected to contend with specific objectives such as defending a single area, collecting treasures within a time limit, or taking out marked enemies.
There will even be random modifiers that make it so you can only use pistols or can only dispatch foes with headshots. Players can choose from multiple difficulties and can unlock Crushing Mode (the hardest difficulty) after completing Survival on Hard Mode. Enemies will come in the form of Brutes, Snipers, and Hunters. After every ten waves, players will have to face a Pirate Warlord boss — one of which is a Djinn-wielding version of Henry Avery.
Survival has its own dedicated progression system, relic challenges, and load outs that are independent of the regular multiplayer. As players increase in rank, they’ll earn upgrades for weapons and Survival-exclusive boosters. There are also vanity items that can only be earned by playing Survival. These items can be worn in both Survival and Multiplayer.
Uncharted 4: Survival will launch sometime in December. Folks who are in Anaheim next week for the annual PlayStation Experience event will have a chance to be among the first to play this mode.
