Stay on target
Snapchat Spectacles look like a heck of a lot of fun. Maybe you’d like to see to see what all the hype is about and try a pair out. Here’s how you can get your hands on a pair.
It’s not as simple as searching for them on Amazon and dropping them in your cart, unfortunately. Snap, Inc. is making a bit of a game out of Spectacle distribution for now. If you want a pair that you don’t have to give back, you’ll need to find a Snapbot.
This is a Snapbot:
It’s a cutesy little vending machine that dispenses Spectacles.
Where do you find a Snapbot? You’ll have to keep a close eye on the Spectacles website to find that out. Every two days they move the Snapbot to a different location. They’ll start counting down 24 hours before the next move is announced.
If you just want to play with a pair, there are companies that will be more than happy to rent you a pair. Both Lumoid and Joymode are offering Spectacle rentals.
A three-day rental from Lumoid will set you back $60, though you can save 5% by signing up for their newsletter. Hey, three bucks is three bucks, and you a can always use a disposable address or unsubscribe later.
Joymode’s rate is substantially lower. For $40 they’ll let you use a pair of Spectacles for four days. That’s a lot more bang for your buck, but you’ll only be able to take advantage if you live in the LA area in a corridor between Santa Monica and Pasadena.
Or you could always just go order a pair of creeper shades from Aliexpress for $30 or so and post your surreptitious snaps manually. Your call.
