Smart Case by Apple
- Price: $79.00
- Colors: Black, Red, Blue, Brown, Pink
Unsurprisingly, Apple’s Smart Case is an outstanding product with a hefty asking price. The built-in magnetic screen cover automatically wakes your device, folds out into a stand, and effectively keeps your iPad in pristine condition. I use a Smart Case on my own iPad, but it’s definitely not for everyone. The $79 retail price is a bit harsh, and leather certainly isn’t palatable to some. Regardless, you’re simply not going to find a classier iPad case than Cupertino’s own.
Classic Black by Dodocase
- Price: $64.95
- Colors: Black, Red on Black, Blue on Black
The Dodocase team has been making top-notch iPad cases for years now. Ever since the original iPad reigned supreme, their handmade cases have been highly regarded by the fashion-conscious among us. Manufactured with traditional binding techniques, it looks and feels like you’re carrying around a book when the case is closed. Of course, with craftsmanship of this quality comes a high asking price. The standard case will set you back $65, and the adjustable multi-angle model costs a whopping $80.
DuraFolio by Speck
- Price: $59.95
- Colors: Grey on Blue, Pink on Grey
If you’re looking for something a bit more heavy duty, take a look at the DuraFolio from Speck. While it only adds three-tenths of an inch to your iPad, it’s tough enough to withstand the bumps and drops of everyday use. And with a textured exterior, you’re even less likely to drop your $500 investment. On top of that, it sports the same features as other folio-style iPad cases, and folds out into a stand in multiple configurations. At $60, the DuraFolio is still on the pricey side, but that’s cheaper than an out-of-pocket repair, right?
Slimbook by Spigen
- Price: $44.99
- Colors: Black
There’s definitely something to be said for utilitarian cases, but aesthetics shouldn’t be dismissed completely. There is no reason why a case can’t protect your iPad, and look good doing it. Spigen’s Slimbook case does an excellent job balancing both aspects, and at a reasonable price to boot. With a stylish metallic polyurethane outer cover and a rigid polycarbonate frame, you’ll be good to go for just 45 bucks.
ArmorBox 2 by i-Blason
- Price: $35.00
- Colors: Black, Blue on Black, Red on Black, Pink on White
Folio-style cases aren’t right for everyone, so let’s take a look at an alternative solution. This polycarbonate case from i-Blason offers protection from scrapes and drops, and even sports a built-in kickstand. On the outside, it’s covered in silicone to add extra grip, so this is a perfect case for those of you with kids in the house. For just $35, you can rest easy knowing that your iPad will be protected from the inevitable wear and tear.
Premium Wallet Case by FYY
- Price: $12.88
- Colors: Black, Red, Blue, Beige, Pink, Green, White, Purple
If you’re on a budget, don’t worry about all those expensive cases. This polyurethane case from FYY costs less than $13, and it has functionality for days. It works as a stand like other folio-style cases, but it has a lot more to offer. The inside flap features slots for cash and cards, and next to those is a hand strap for one-handed grips. It also comes in eight different colors, so you can color coordinate as you see fit. It’s definitely not the toughest iPad case (and it doesn’t seem to be leather), but it sure is a great deal.
